Olympic Recap: Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin Battle for Gold

It was a night of girls in bikinis and men in tights at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics! On the gymnastics front, Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin once again face off, this time on the balance beam. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh continue their quest for gold in beach volleyball. And in track and field, injury grounds Chinese sprinter Liu Xiang, Americans Lolo Jones, Damu Cherry and Dawn Harper dominate the 100m hurdles semifinals and Stephanie Brown Traftion captures gold in discus.

Olympic Recap: Americans Sweep 400m Hurdles, Nastia Liukin Takes Silver

This just in… American teammates Angelo Taylor, Kerron Clement and Bershaw Jackson have swept the 400 meter hurdles. It was the first time the event has been swept since 1960, when the U.S. previously accomplished the feat. Plus, American gymnast Nastia Luikin takes the silver in a shockingly tight uneven bars competition and the U.S. women's softball team sails forward on a gold medal run.

It was a night of upsets as Nastia Liukin followed in her father Valeri's footsteps to take gold, forcing favored Shawn Johnson to settle for silver. Then Ryan Lochte pulled an upset, beat teammate Aaron Piersol in the 200 meter backstroke and took gold... only to hop back in the pool 26 mins later and take bronze to Michael Phelps' gold in the 200 IM.
